A major factor in oral hygiene is routine dental cleanings. Even with a daily routine of brushing and flossing, mineralized plaque may form in hard to reach places. By visiting Cuero Dentistry every six months, our patients can maintain a healthy, bright smile, prevent gum disease, and increase overall health.
What to Expect:
Under most circumstances, one of our highly trained dental hygienists will perform the routine cleaning. After the procedure, Dr. Elhosary will usually examine the cleaned teeth for any type of irregularities. Lasting approximately 30 minutes, the dental cleaning procedure is a painless process. In some cases, patients may experience sensitivity following the procedure.
How It's Done
The dental cleaning process involves two steps for completion.
1. Beginning with scaling the teeth, the hygienist carefully removes the built up plaque and tartar from the surface of the teeth. The dental hygienist can accomplish the procedure in one of two ways by hand or with an electric scaler. During this step, the dental hygienist will take the time to clean gum pockets to remove any plaque residue.
2. After the scaling process, the next step is polishing. At this point, the dental hygienist will thoroughly examine all teeth to remove any final plaque buildup. The polishing and buffing technique may take several minutes due to the use of different size heads. By switching to smaller sizes, the dental hygienist will be able to clean and polish all the teeth.
